Growing Up & Becoming A Child
It’s taken me a long time to grow up and realise I’m a child. A child of God. Despite being nearly sixty years old I’m still that child. How brilliant our God is! What truly amazing Grace he shows. Even when I didn’t realise he was there, he always was, always will be. It’s so easy to forget or forsake the vital importance of a child like relationship with God. It might be a basic thing, but when times are tough, do we always remember that we are His child? When times are brilliant – do we always remember that we are His child? Twenty four hours a day. 365 days a year. Through thick and thin. Forever.
We may be church leaders, pastors, worship leaders. But do we always remember we are children of our Lord? Do we behave like children? Do we bear witness in child like innocence, wonder, joy and love? Or do our responsibilities as leaders sometimes distract from these basics? Do we let the ups and downs of leadership and life get in the way, and we forget on occasions that we are so loved by our Father in all circumstances and at all times? Do we forget what it is to be a child of God and to bear child like witness to that?Be honest – I know I can forget. Especially when under real pressure, or when it’s the opposite and everything is running all too smooth. Sorry about that Lord! But he forgives his children of course. Even the ones that are supposed to be leaders of His church in some form!
Perhaps I’m a bit behind other church leaders here? Perhaps not? Whatever your role in leadership, little or great… Let’s all remember, always, we are also as children. We bear witness by that and by demonstrating child like qualities. Show awe, wonder, curiosity, innocence, joy and unconditional love… Be child like today!
1 John 3 – See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
Indeed, that is what we are. Praise be to God! Thank you Jesus!
